After an introduction to a new material and fabrication method, this project’s brief was to create a fully functional chair that could support the weight of a person. I decided to challenge the base project and not only design a chair that would fulfill the requirements, but that would also be a well-designed and beautiful finished piece of furniture. This rocking chair is designed to have simple and clean radial lines to convey the ability to rock. The ‘arms’ of the chair are bent in a flexible ‘wave’ shape to support different seated positions. Challenging the perceived innate hardness of the material, the user is able to comfortably ‘snuggle’ into the chair.
